PSU Wraps Up Fall Season

It is official...Snow is on the ground and Fall Ball is over!  Plymouth State Women's Lacrosse wrapped up their 2011 Fall Ball season with a big win against Colby-Sawyer.  This Fall season proved to be  a very successful one!  Colby-Sawyer came out swinging, but the Panthers proved too much for them.  It was great to see the hard work our ladies put into practice, executed on the playing field.  The upperclassmen were strong and confident as expected, and the freshman class proved a force to be reckoned with.  With 10 minutes left in the game, an all-freshman line up was put on the field with senior Ally Baribault in goal.  The freshman played like seasoned veterans, picking up the pace of the game quickly and easily.  Freshman Carly Floyd had this to say about her Fall Ball experience, "I always knew that I was joining a team that was one of a kind, but when we were prepping for the Colby-Sawyer game it really hit me how special this team really is. Between meditation, the various leadership and confidence building exercises, and just simply the unlimited energy at practice, this team is incredible. I feel so fortunate to be surrounded by such a great group of girls and an outstanding coaching staff."  We are looking forward to pre-season and a Spring Break in TEXAS!  The success of our Fall Ball season will surely carry over into our regular season.  Watch out LEC competitors!!

Regional All-American Honors for Caitlin Swanson!!

All-Region honor for PSU Women’s Lacrosse player

Swanson named Second Team All-Pilgrim Region

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The leading scorer on the 2011 Plymouth State University women's lacrosse team has been honored with a prestigious regional honor for her outstanding season for the Panthers.
Sophomore Caitlin Swanson (Holderness, N.H./Plymouth Regional) has been named a Pilgrim Region Second Team All-Star by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA).  Swanson is an All-Region selection after receiving an All-Little East Conference Second Team honor earlier this month.

 Caitlin Swanson

A two-year starter, Swanson led the Panthers in scoring with 57 points on 45 goals and 12 assists.  She tied for third in the LEC in goals per game (3.0), ranked fifth in points per game (3.80) and second in game-winning goals (4).  She was also second on the team in draw controls (26) and fourth in ground balls (25).
Swanson tallied at least one goal in all 15 PSU games, and notched at least two goals 13 times.  Her top performances were a seven-goal, one-assist game in a victory at Worcester State University, and a five-goal, one-assist effort in a win at Linfield College (Ore.).
Swanson is the fifth Panther women’s lacrosse player to earn All-Region honors in the past decade.  Kalie Judd was a Second Team choice in 2010, Kelsey MacDonald and Nicole Evans were Second Team selections in 2006 and Katie Sheridan was a three-time All-Region choice from 2002-04.
PSU completed the season with a 7-8 overall record under second-year head coach Kristin Blanchette. The Panthers finished 2-4 in the LEC and were knocked out of the conference tournament in the first round.
